ClickUp Sheets: what it does, who gets it, and when to use it
ClickUp now has spreadsheets built in. What Sheets does, which plans get it, and when to use it instead of a Table view or Google Sheets. Checked Oct 2026.

Written October 2026
Short answer: ClickUp Sheets is a proper spreadsheet built into ClickUp, announced on 27 October 2026. You can import an Excel or CSV file, write formulas, and pull a List's tasks in to work out costs against a budget. It's only on Business Plus, Enterprise and Max for now. If you're on one of those, it's a good home for the Google Sheet that sits next to your ClickUp. If you're not, a Table view with Formula Fields still covers a lot.
My bias, said once: I'm a ClickUp Verified Consultant, so I want your work in ClickUp where it makes sense. Every ClickUp fact below comes from ClickUp's own help centre or ClickUp's announcement, checked on 28 October 2026. Where ClickUp hasn't documented something, I've said so.
What is ClickUp Sheets?
In ClickUp's words, Sheets are “spreadsheets built into ClickUp”, for planning a budget, tracking a project or working with your task data using formulas, charts and conditional formatting (ClickUp Help). ClickUp's announcement adds “hundreds of formulas, XLSX/CSV import, and real-time collaboration” (ClickUp on LinkedIn). The formula count and live co-editing are ClickUp's announcement claims. The help centre doesn't give a number or describe people editing at the same time yet.
Here's what the help centre documents today:
- Four ways to start: a blank Sheet, your tasks data (pick a Space, Folder or List), an imported .xlsx, .csv or .xlsm file, or a template.
- Task data: Data, then Connect a List brings tasks in from a Space, Folder or List, through one of its views. You can also type =TASKEMBED("task ID") in a cell to pull one task's fields into the Sheet. ClickUp doesn't say whether TASKEMBED refreshes on its own.
- The spreadsheet basics: multiple tabs, formulas, conditional formatting, data validation and dropdowns, filters, named ranges, charts, sparklines and pivot tables.
- Sharing: new Sheets are private. You can invite people by name or email, share with your whole Workspace or make a public link. Comments work once a Sheet is shared.
- History and export: version history sits under File, then History. You can export to XLSX or CSV, or print.
- A home of its own: every Sheet is saved in the Sheets Hub, which you open from Global Navigation (ClickUp Help).
One thing to know before you rely on it: task data in a Sheet is a snapshot. ClickUp says it “doesn't update on its own”. You pull in the latest with Data, then Refresh Connected Data (ClickUp Help). So it's a working copy of your tasks, not a live view of them.
Which plans get ClickUp Sheets?
ClickUp's availability page lists Sheets on Business Plus, Enterprise and Max. It isn't available on Free Forever, Unlimited, Core or Business (ClickUp Help, checked 28 October 2026). Inside those plans, who can create Sheets, import and export depends on your Workspace permissions. Business Plus isn't listed on ClickUp's public pricing page, so if you're on Core or Business, ask ClickUp whether it's offered to your Workspace. Otherwise the listed route is Enterprise or Max.
That matters, because most of the small teams I work with sit on Core or Business. If that's you, read the Table view section below before you upgrade for this alone.
Does ClickUp Brain work with Sheets?
Yes, in one documented way. You click the Brain icon in a Sheet to ask ClickUp Brain about it, and the Sheet is attached as context (ClickUp Help). ClickUp hasn't documented anything more than that yet, so I wouldn't plan around Brain writing formulas or editing cells for you.
Three jobs I'd give ClickUp Sheets
1. Project budgets, with costs against tasks
This is the job ClickUp leads with: “Pull your project's tasks into a Sheet, add what each one costs, and see what's left in the budget” (ClickUp on LinkedIn). Connect the project's List, add a cost column next to the tasks, and total it against the budget at the top. A chart or a bit of conditional formatting shows when you're close to the line.
Remember the snapshot. If tasks get added or renamed, hit Refresh Connected Data before you read the totals.
2. Client retainers and hours
If you sell retainers, you need a monthly view of hours used against hours sold, per client. Connect each client's List into its own tab, then work out the balance with formulas, so the account manager can see it in one place.
One caveat. ClickUp doesn't say exactly which columns come across when you connect a List, so check that time tracked shows up from your view before you build a retainer sheet around it. If it doesn't, a Table view with a Formula Field can do the maths, because Formula Fields can use Time Tracked and Time Estimated, in hours (ClickUp Help).
3. Replacing the Google Sheet that sits next to ClickUp
When I audit a workspace, I often find a Google Sheet doing a job next to ClickUp: a cost tracker, a rate card, a forecast. It works, but it's another login, another link to lose, and the numbers drift away from the tasks.
Sheets lets you import that file as it is (.xlsx, .csv or .xlsm) and keep it beside the work it describes. If the sheet is really a list of jobs dressed up as a spreadsheet, though, it shouldn't become a Sheet at all. It should become tasks. My post on moving projects off spreadsheets covers that.
When to use Sheets vs a Table view vs Google Sheets
| What you need | ClickUp Sheets | ClickUp Table view | Google Sheets |
|---|---|---|---|
| Link to your tasks | ~ A snapshot you refresh by hand. TASKEMBED pulls one task's fields in (ClickUp doesn't say whether it refreshes itself) | ✓ It is your tasks, so it's always current | ✕ Only through an export, an import or an integration |
| Formulas | ✓ Spreadsheet formulas in any cell | ~ Formula Fields, over 70 functions, one formula per column | ✓ Spreadsheet formulas in any cell |
| Charts and pivot tables | ✓ Charts, sparklines and pivot tables | ~ Calculate columns (Business plan and up). Charts live in Dashboards | ✓ Charts and pivot tables |
| Bring in an Excel or CSV file | ✓ .xlsx, .csv or .xlsm opens as a Sheet | ~ The importer turns rows into tasks | ✓ Opens and edits Excel files |
| Plans | ~ Business Plus, Enterprise and Max only | ✓ Every plan, Free included | Outside ClickUp, on a Google account |
| Sharing | ✓ Invite people, share with the Workspace or make a public link | ~ Follows your ClickUp permissions | ✓ Google's sharing settings |
| Verdict | Budgets, cost sheets and real spreadsheet maths next to your tasks | Day-to-day task data that has to stay live | Spreadsheets that mostly live outside ClickUp |
| Best for | Teams on Business Plus, Enterprise or Max | Every ClickUp team, on any plan | Work shared with people who'll never log in to ClickUp |
Use ClickUp Sheets when you need free-form spreadsheet maths, like budgets, cost plans and forecasts, and you want it next to your tasks rather than in another app.
Use a Table view when the data is your tasks and it has to stay live. Table view is on every plan, including Free (ClickUp Help), and Formula Fields handle the per-task maths. My ClickUp views guide explains when Table beats List.
Keep Google Sheets when the spreadsheet mostly lives outside ClickUp, or lots of people who'll never log in to ClickUp need to edit it together. Google describes co-editing as several people working on the same spreadsheet at the same time (Google). If you need it to stay in step with ClickUp, Zapier can link the two; see my ClickUp and Zapier guide.
Where ClickUp Sheets falls short today
- Plan. Business Plus, Enterprise and Max only. There's no Sheets on Core or Business.
- Snapshots. Connected task data doesn't update itself. Somebody has to refresh it.
- It's new. ClickUp announced it on 27 October 2026, so expect ClickUp to change and add things. I'll update this post when it does.
- Deleting is final. ClickUp says deleted Sheets and their data can't be recovered (ClickUp Help).
Skip Sheets if you're on Core or Business and your sums are per task. A Table view with Formula Fields does that on the plan you already pay for. My ClickUp pricing guide covers the plans.
So should you use it?
If you're on Business Plus, Enterprise or Max and there's a budget or cost spreadsheet next to your ClickUp, yes. Try moving that one sheet first, connect its tasks, and see whether the team stops opening the old file.
If you're on another plan, don't upgrade just for Sheets until you've checked whether a well-built Table view already does the job. Usually the bigger win is getting the structure right, so the numbers live on the tasks in the first place. That's what my ClickUp consultancy is for, and ClickUp for agencies shows how I set up retainers.
…Jack nailed the brief, everything felt calmer and clearer and the team are much happier too. The automations alone have saved us hours each week, but the biggest win is how simple everything is now. A system that actually fit how we work

ClickUp's help centre lists Sheets on Business Plus, Enterprise and Max. It isn't on Free Forever, Unlimited, Core or Business (checked 28 October 2026).
Does ClickUp Sheets update when my tasks change?
Not on its own. ClickUp says connected task data is a snapshot, and you pull in the latest with Data, then Refresh Connected Data. If you need numbers that are always live, use a Table view with Formula Fields.
Can I import an Excel file into ClickUp Sheets?
Yes. ClickUp Sheets imports .xlsx, .csv and .xlsm files as a new Sheet, and you can export back to XLSX or CSV.
Does ClickUp Brain work with Sheets?
You can ask ClickUp Brain about a Sheet by clicking the Brain icon, and the Sheet is attached as context. ClickUp hasn't documented more than that yet.
Should I stop using Google Sheets?
Not always. Move the sheets that describe your ClickUp work, like budgets and cost trackers, if you're on a plan with Sheets. Keep Google Sheets for files that mostly live outside ClickUp or are edited by people who don't use it.
Want ClickUp built around your business, not the other way round?
If there's a spreadsheet sitting next to your ClickUp, I'll tell you honestly whether Sheets, a Table view or a better structure is the right home for it.
I'm one of 8 UK-based ClickUp Verified Consultants. ClickUp vets every consultant on that list, and the job is setting up workspaces, sorting out workflows and getting teams onto it properly (ClickUp Help). You can find me on ClickUp's own partner directory. It's a listing ClickUp runs, not a title I gave myself.
Why that matters to you: I've done 200+ ClickUp builds and 260+ projects, and the systems I've built save clients 500+ hours a week between them. So the framework gets shaped to how you actually work before your team ever logs in, and nobody spends six months fighting the setup.
