How to Vet a ClickUp Consultant Before You Hire One
Before hiring a ClickUp consultant, check their directory listing, ask for real client examples, and clarify what 'trained' or 'verified' actually means. Here's the checklist.

To vet a ClickUp consultant before hiring, check three things: whether they're listed in ClickUp's own consultant directory at clickup.com/consultants, whether they can show two or three real workspace builds for businesses like yours, and exactly what credential they're claiming — Verified Consultant, Solutions Partner, vetted consultant, or just "trained," which are not the same thing and carry very different levels of independent checking.
I'm Jack Lenton, a ClickUp Verified Consultant and Zapier Silver Solutions Partner running Toki, an automation consultancy based in Norwich. I've written this as a genuine checklist rather than a sales pitch — use it whoever you end up hiring, not just if it's me.
Step 1: Check the official directory
Search clickup.com/consultants for the person's name or their company name. If someone claims Verified Consultant or Solutions Partner status and doesn't appear there, that's a direct contradiction worth asking about — both statuses are independently checkable and neither can be bought.
Step 2: Ask exactly what "trained" or "expert" means
"ClickUp trained," "ClickUp expert" and "ClickUp certified" are not protected terms — anyone can use them after watching some videos. Ask directly: trained by whom, checked by whom, and for how long have they been doing this professionally? A confident, specific answer is a good sign; a vague one isn't.
Step 3: Ask for real workspace examples, not screenshots
A portfolio page of nice-looking dashboards proves someone can make ClickUp look tidy. It doesn't prove they can structure a workspace that survives contact with a real, messy business. Ask for two or three examples from businesses of a similar size and sector to yours, and ask what problem each build actually solved.
Step 4: Clarify who will actually do the work
If you're talking to a larger Solutions Partner firm, ask which specific person will be assigned to your project, and what their individual experience looks like. A strong agency brand doesn't guarantee the person doing your build has done this before.
Step 5: Ask what happens after the build
A workspace that nobody on your team can maintain becomes unusable within months. Ask whether training and documentation are included, or whether you're expected to figure it out from a Loom recording alone.
Red flags to watch for
- Credential claims that don't match ClickUp's own public directory
- No willingness to show real client work, only marketing screenshots
- Vague answers about who specifically will do the work
- No mention of training or handover once the build is finished
- Pressure to sign before a proper discovery conversation about how your business actually works
Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between a ClickUp Verified Consultant and someone who's just "trained"?
A Verified Consultant has been independently reviewed by ClickUp based on real client work and is listed in ClickUp's own directory. "Trained" usually just means someone completed publicly available course content, with no independent check behind it.
Is it worth paying more for a Verified Consultant or Solutions Partner?
Not automatically — but the independent check does reduce the risk of hiring someone whose only qualification is confident marketing. Whether it's worth the premium depends on how complex your build is and how much risk you're comfortable taking on.
Can I verify someone's ClickUp credentials myself before a sales call?
Yes. ClickUp's consultant directory at clickup.com/consultants is public and searchable by name, so you can check before you ever speak to them.
