In short

Make, formerly Integromat, is a visual automation platform where you build workflows called scenarios on a drag and drop canvas. It bills in credits, and suits people who enjoy technical building.

What is Make?

Make, which used to be called Integromat, is an automation platform like Zapier. You build workflows, which Make calls scenarios, by dragging modules onto a visual canvas and joining them up.

Make bills in credits. Most module actions use 1 credit, and AI features can use more. The Free plan includes 1,000 credits a month, and routing and error handling modules don't use any. It connects with over 3,000 apps.

It's genuinely good at complicated logic and data handling, and the canvas makes branching easy to see. The trade off is that it's more technical. There's more to learn, and more to understand when something breaks.

How I think about Make with clients

I build mostly in Zapier, and I'm upfront that I'm biased. My reason is simple: I want to hand over the keys. Zapier is the tool the people I train can actually pick up, read and fix themselves.

With Make, that's harder. When a scenario breaks, most of my clients wouldn't know where to start, so they end up paying someone for support every time. If a client already has someone technical in house who loves Make, I'll happily work with it.

The same job in Zapier and Make

  1. Zapier A trigger, a Path for each case, then actions Tasks
  2. Make A trigger module, a Router, then modules on each route Credits
  3. Fixing it Zapier's step list is easier for a non-technical team to follow Handover
  4. Cost Compare on your real volumes, as the units are different Check

Both can do the job. The question is who'll look after it when it breaks.

Make FAQs

Is Make cheaper than Zapier?

Sometimes, on paper. Make's credits and Zapier's tasks count differently, so compare using your real workflows. And include the cost of support if nobody on your team can fix scenarios.

Is Make harder to use than Zapier?

For most non-technical teams, yes. Make gives you more control on a visual canvas, but there's more to learn. Zapier is built so beginners can read and change their own Zaps.

When would you recommend Make?

When a client already has a technical person who'll own it, or the job needs heavy data handling that would be awkward in Zapier. Otherwise I'd go with Zapier so the team can look after it.
