ClickUp Channels, ClickUp messaging or ClickUp DMs
ClickUp Chat is the messaging built into ClickUp, with Channels, direct messages and threads that sit right next to your tasks, so conversations can turn straight into work.
ClickUp Chat is ClickUp's own messaging. You get Channels for teams or topics, direct messages, threads and @mentions, all inside the same app as your tasks and Docs.
The point is that conversations and work sit together. You can turn a message into a task, link tasks in a Channel and keep the decision next to the job it's about.
On the Free Forever plan, message history goes back 90 days. Limited members view only, which ClickUp also calls Chat collaborators, are free and can still send messages, DMs and @mentions.
Whether to use ClickUp Chat or Slack depends on where the team already talks. If a team lives in ClickUp all day and only uses Slack for internal chat, moving to ClickUp Chat cuts out an app and keeps decisions next to the work.
If they talk to lots of outside people in Slack, I usually leave Slack where it is and connect it to ClickUp instead. What I avoid is half the team in one and half in the other.
The request doesn't get lost in a scroll of messages.
For teams that mostly talk internally and already work in ClickUp, often yes. If you talk to lots of outside companies in Slack Connect, I'd keep Slack and connect it to ClickUp.
Yes, it's on the Free Forever plan, but with a 90 day message history and a 1,000 message limit for the whole Workspace that doesn't reset. Paid plans have unlimited messages and history.
Yes. Limited members view only, which ClickUp calls Chat collaborators, are free and can send messages, DMs and @mentions.
I set these up and train your team, in your own ClickUp or Zapier account.
